A Bit About Bendy Tots Yoga and Baby Massage

Hello I'm Emma,
I am qualified as a Baby Massage instructor, Baby Yoga instructor, Toddler/Preschool yoga instructor, Tummy Time practitioner and Developmental Play Practitioner.
I am also a Qualified Paediatric nurse specialising in Neonatal Intensive Care and mummy to two crazy, amazing children aged 6 and 2 years old.
With both of my children I attended different baby classes but my favourite was always Baby yoga and Baby Massage. As a Neonatal Nurse I know how important positive touch and bonding is with your baby and children, which is what I experienced in these classes. I came away with new skills, felt an incredible bond with my children and met some new friends along the way.
I have created Bendy Tots Yoga so I can do something I love and hopefully give parents and children the same amazing experience my children and I had. 
I am fully insured and hold a recent DBS check.

Everything You Need To Know

 

Baby Massage and Tummy Time

Baby Massage is a calm, relaxing and hugely beneficial class for you and your baby.

Tummy Time involves using various equipment and sensory play to gently introduce and encourage your baby to playing on their tummy.  


The course runs over 6 weeks and is taught at King's Church in Beverley.  

The first 4 weeks we concentrate on Massaging your baby then for the final 2 weeks I will introduce tummy time techniques and play. 


Each week we focus on an area of your baby's body and, as the course progresses, we add new areas to massage.


By week 4 you will have learnt a basic massage routine that you can safely and effectively practice at home.


Some of the benefits are:

  • improving circulation;

  • helping to alleviate colic and digestive problems;

  • help with sleeping;

  • alleviating congestion in the face and chest; and

  • help with constipation.


Baby Massage encourages further bonding with your baby and enables you to further understand their needs.

During Tummy Time you will learn about an infant's range of comfort or discomfort while on their tummy, along with how to better understand and soothe your baby by connecting with them. 


A variety of positions, holds and play ideas are taught and practiced including some Baby Yoga and Massage.

Practicing Tummy Time routinely will: 

  • help prevent and improve head flattening due to back sleeping; 

  • help breastfeeding/ latching issues;

  • improve neck weakness or turning problems (torticollis);

  • improve digestion problems; and

  • will encourage babies who do not seem to like Tummy Time.


This course is great for both mums and dads.

Baby Yoga


Baby Yoga is an inclusive set of practices to enhance playful interaction and communication between you and your baby and helps to promote healthy development. 


This 6 week course is held at King's Church in Beverley

Join us on a journey as we incorporate story, music and sensory play into yoga moves and stretches. 


This class is a perfect accompaniment to our baby massage classes which expands the benefits of touch with those of movement and relaxation.


From birth, babies respond positively to the stimulation of both movement and touch. 


In each session we use yoga moves which have been especially adapted for babies, all wrapped up with playful moves and rhymes.


Baby Yoga builds on your baby's physical and mental development milestones and aids brain development and sense of coordination, balance, sensory and motor skills. 


Baby Yoga also helps you to attune to your baby's needs and to calm or stimulate them as appropriate with a sense of security and well-being. 


The benefits are:

  • relaxation for you and your baby;

  • an aid to milestone development such as head control, sitting, crawling, standing, early steps, first jumps and balancing; 

  • help to settle babies and improve sleep patterns; 

  • movements which can aid digestion and holds which soothe colic. 

Toddler Yoga

Toddler Yoga classes are exciting, creative and at the same time calming and creating focus. Combining fitness, fun and relaxation in each unique class. 


We combine yoga and mindfulness to encourage toddlers to grow in confidence to the best of their abilities. 


We will stretch your toddler's imagination by taking them on an imaginary adventure, which they will act out using yoga postures. 


The release of physical tension from the body by stretching and practicing calming breathing exercises before lying down for a relaxing story. 


Toddlers will love having the chance to use their imaginations in this way.


Class journeys include: 

  • going on safari;

  • flying to the moon;

  • becoming superhero’s;

  • flying on magic carpets; and

  • other fun adventures.


The magic lies in the fact that whilst the toddlers are having great fun, they are also improving their health and minds. 

Developmental Play Gym

This class uses play as a means to focus on the development of the cognitive, social, emotional, motor and sensorimotor skills of children. The types of play and activities we do brings all elements of development together and reflects the importance of the parent child relationship too. 

The class is age appropriate and provides the right balance- ensuring that they are challenged whilst also enjoying the activity. This type of play is fun, flowing, whilst supporting the development of crucial skills. 


Benefits-


Physical skills:

  • By doing Gross motor activities (using large muscle groups) they are developing, initiating and maintaining movement and balance.

  • Fine motor skills such as grasping, manipulating and releasing objects with control as well as tool use such as crayons/pencils and scissors. (fine motor skills are important  for many daily activities such as dressing, using cutlery and at school, handwriting and using a computer)

  • Motor planning, postural stability, body awareness, coordination, balance.

Cognitive skills:

Through play a child learns about the world, how to problem solve, interact with different objects, forces, the space around them, distance between objects, spatial relations, direction, differentiate between colour, size and shape as well as developing their language skills. 

Emotional and Social skills:

Through play, children learn about self awareness, taking turns, boundaries, teamwork, reward, sharing, waiting, patience, winning and losing. 

Play is also simply fun and allows a child simply to lose themselves within their own imagination and connection with their world, supporting their emotional health. 

Play is VITAL for babies and children to meet their full potential emotionally and socially. When we feel playful, we are open to possibility, and when we are open to possibility we are aligned to LOVE. When we are aligned to love, we feel safe to explore, and when we can go out in the world feeling safe, we can action our dreams and reach our potential.
